Edinburgh’s Best-Kept Secret: The Secret Herb Garden

Growing up in Edinburgh, it still surprises me with hidden treasures. One such gem is The Secret Herb Garden Café Bistro, a place I only recently discovered, and it's just a two-minute drive from IKEA. If I had known it was there, I would have visited much sooner.

The Secret Garden boasts a stunning greenhouse that immediately reminded me of The Botanic Gardens. Inside, tables are set amidst lush greenery, creating a serene atmosphere where you can enjoy delightful cakes and savory dishes surrounded by plants. On my visit, I indulged in a generous slice of Victoria Sponge, topped with a delicious raspberry. The selection of cakes and scones is gorgeous!

Adding to the charm of the place was a friendly cat that roamed around, although it didn't make its way to our table. It was a quaint touch that added to the garden's homely feel.

One of the unique offerings at The Secret Garden is their baking classes. Whether you're interested in learning how to bake a cake or explore the world of edible flowers, there's a class for you. It's a wonderful opportunity to pick up new skills in a picturesque setting.

We visited early in the day, which allowed us to experience the quiet and peaceful ambiance fully. Being surrounded by nature, even indoors, was incredibly refreshing. While our table was among other diners, I couldn't help but notice the more secluded tables nestled deeper within the greenery. Next time, I hope to secure one of those for an even more immersive experience.

Located at the foot of The Pentland Hills, The Secret Herb Garden Café Bistro also hosts special events, including the enchanting full moon dinners.
